It is distinguished by being the abode of the Trinity — Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma — within a single temple complex. This revered site has been glorified through hymns by all three of the primary Saivite saints — Appar, Sambandar and Sundarar. Owing to the presence of three towers, three entrances, three sanctums and being sung by three saints, devotees believe that praying here yields threefold blessings.
